For 20 years, the Detroit Free Press and the Skillman Foundation partnered to help hundreds of children’s summer camps raise money for their program. In all, Summer Dreams helped raise $20 million to send underprivileged kids to camp. We’re grateful to the many generous readers who made the program possible. Gift of Reading strives to reach underserved children in metro Detroit who are at risk of never learning to read. We believe that by giving them a new book of their own, we'll help kids discover the joy in reading to encourage a life-long reading habit.
